Wright County Fair, August 4-8

The Wright County Fair will take place at the fairgrounds in Howard Lake on County Rd. 6, north of Hwy. 12, from August 4-8.  The Fair will feature a huge tractor show with over 300 rare and unusual models of M-M tractors plus farm equipment on display. For more information visit their website at www.wrightcountyfair.com.

Arts & Crafts Festival, August 21

Coming soon is the annual Arts & Crafts Festival.  This one-day event, held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 21, brings nearly 200 artists and crafters to downtown Buffalo and attracts thousands of shoppers.  Take a break from shopping and enjoy a variety of food and beverages offered by local vendors.  Don’t miss this extravaganza held in beautiful downtown Buffalo!

Wizard of Oz, Performing Arts Center

Buffalo Community Theater presents the “Wizard of Oz” at the BHS Performing Arts Center beginning on Friday, July 23, at 7:30 p.m. Shows continue on July 24, 25, 29, 30 and 31, performances are at 7:30 p.m. except on Sunday, July 25, the performance is at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are available at Buffalo Books & Coffee in downtown Buffalo, online at www.buffalocommunitytheater.org, or at the door.  Prices are $14/adults, $10/seniors, $8/ages 18 and under.  For more information call 1-800-838-3006.

All Star Clown Show, July 31

New London Antique Car Run

Preparations have begun for the 24th Annual Antique Car Run. The event is more than a one-day tour – activities begin on Wednesday, August 11.  Shorter tours in the New London area continue on August 12 and 13.  The 120+ mile Grand Tour begins at 7 a.m. on August 14 with a stop in Buffalo.  For further information, visit www.antiquecarrun.org.

Night to Unite & Block Parties, August 3

The Buffalo Police Dept. will assist with organizing the annual neighborhood block parties which will be held on August 3.  There will also be a  ”Night to Unite” event in Sturges Park on August 3 with music, food, prizes and more. If you would like to donate money or business gift cards to help offset costs for the neighborhood and Sturges Park event, please call 763-682-5976 – businesses will be recognized for their donations. Participating in this event is a good way to continue building good community relationships!

Buffalo Royalty Crowned

Congratulations to the 2010-11 Buffalo Royalty:  Ashley Michalko – Miss Buffalo, Princesses Maggie O’Donnell and Alyssa Tryggeseth.  The coronation took place Sunday night, June 19, at the Buffalo High School Performing Arts Center, the finale to 2010 Buffalo Days.

Wright County Heritage Presents Journey Stories

Visit the Wright County Heritage Center (located on Hwy. 25 north of Walmart) from June 1 to July 9 as the Center hosts “Journey Stories,” tales of how we and our ancestors came to America, curated by William Withuhn, curator of transportation for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.  Free and open to the public.

Neighbors Strengthening Wright Communities

The Wright County Labor Council with Faith in Action of Wright County offer their first annual community service event.   Project History:  Neighbors Strengthening Wright Communities began as a partnership project between the Wright County Labor Council and Faith in Action of Wright County to help elderly and disabled individuals get their homes ready for winter.  Since then, the project has grown to include other organizations and municipalities joining the community effort by organizing their own service events on October 3!  Contact Betsy Hunter at betsy@workingpartnerships.org or Allison Moser, Faith in Action servantfia@earthlink.net to sign up to volunteer!

Buffalo Food Shelf Senior Day and Distribution Hours

The first Monday of the month will be distribution for Seniors (ages 55 and older) at the Buffalo Food Shelf from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Please bring a photo ID and proof of residency (utility bill, etc.) showing you live in the 55313 zip code area.  The Food Shelf is located at 301 12th Ave. S. in Buffalo – 3 blocks east of Cub Foods and Super America.  Regular Food Shelf hours are:  Tuesdays 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.; Thurs 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. and Fridays 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.  In addition to the regular hours, the Food Shelf will be open the 1st Saturday of each month for distribution and donation drop-offs from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with the exception in July when the Food Shelf will be open on July 11 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. due to the 4th of July falling on a Saturday.  For further information call 763-684-1699 or online at www.buffalofoodshelf.com.
